The respective translation can be checked by a second, independent proofreader if required, who also works exclusively in their native language. English. The number of people who speak at least two languages has increased thanks to globalization. In parallel to the colloquial language we use for everyday life, a world language for trade, politics and long-distance transport is increasingly being used. In terms of its geographic distribution, no language is currently more widespread than English. The English language is an official and/or national language in 59 countries; the overseas territories of the United Kingdom play an important role here. English is also an official language of the United Nations, the European Union, the African Union, the Organization of American States and NATO.
Italian is a member of the Romance language group alongside French, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan and Romanian, which all have Latin as their root language.
The Dutch language belongs to the West Germanic group of the Germanic branch of the Indo-European languages together with German. The transnational West Low German dialects in particular, but also English and Frisian, have many similarities with Dutch. The Afrikaans language spoken in South African and Namibia also emerged from Dutch.
The Spanish language is increasingly on the rise as more and more people speak Spanish and more and more people want to learn it. Between 320 and 400 million people worldwide speak Spanish as their native language and 100 to 200 million use it as a second language. Spanish is one of the most widespread languages worldwide and plays a crucial role in today’s world.
French belongs to the Romance language group of the Italic branch of the Indo-European languages. As a result, this language is more closely related to Italian, Romansh, Spanish, Catalan, Portuguese and Romanian, among others. French is spoken by some 80 million people as their native language and is regarded as a world language, since it is spoken by around 230 million speakers across 50 countries covering all the continents and is frequently learned as a second language in all corners of the globe.
